2023 MG ZS EV Long Range unveiled

The attack on MG’s electric cars continues at full steam.
The Chinese brand has revealed prices for the long-haul version of its ZS EV and confirmed that the new small electric hatchback MG4 will arrive in the second half of this year.
MG Australia boss Peter Ciao says buyers have demanded a longer-range version of the ZS EV.
“Following the success of the ZS EV last September, we listened to our customers’ feedback and accelerated the arrival of our new ZS EV long range,” said Mr. Ciao.
The MG ZS EV Long Range variant is priced from around $57,700 starting off, which is about $11,000 more expensive than the entry-level standard version.
Buyers can order the ZS EV Long Range later this month, with deliveries starting in April.
For the extra money you get a range of 440km, a huge jump from 320km in the regular version.
It comes with a larger 72.6kWh battery, higher than the 50.3kWh power station in cheaper variants.
The ZS EV Long Range uses the same single 130 kW/280 Nm electric motor as the rest of the range.
The charging speed is below average: via a fast charger it takes up to an hour before the battery is charged to 80 percent.
It comes with an extensive list of standard equipment, including must-have items such as a 10.1-inch central touchscreen that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Connectivity is further enhanced by the built-in navigation system, Bluetooth, digital radio, a charging station for wireless devices and five USB charging ports.
Buyers can expect faux leather seats, heated front seats and an electronically adjustable driver’s seat, plus a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
There are chrome accents on the outside and flashy 17-inch alloy wheels. A panoramic sunroof, roof rails and rear privacy glass are also standard.
MG has fitted an extensive range of safety equipment.
The ZS EV Long Range automatically brakes if it detects a potential collision, warns you if a vehicle is in your blind spot or approaching from the side while reversing, and helps you stay centered in your lane.
MG Australia hasn’t revealed any local details on the forthcoming MG4 small hatchback, but the vehicle is on sale in the UK and gives us a taste of what we’re likely to get.
Overseas it comes with a choice of two batteries and motors; a 50.8 kWh unit good for 350 km of range and a single electric motor delivering 125 kW / 250 Nm, or a longer range version with a 61 kWh battery good for about 450 km of driving, with a 150 kW / 250 Nm engine.
Prices start at £26,995 ($49,200) and go up to £32,495 ($59,200).
