The Brazilian government announced this Sunday its willingness to offer possible help to the victims of the earthquake on Saturday that shook Ecuador and left at least 15 dead and extensive material damage in both Ecuador and Peru.

The Brazilian government “affirms its willingness to provide all possible cooperation to the authorities of the two countries to address the humanitarian emergency,” according to a statement released this Sunday by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Foreign Ministry expressed in its note the regret of the Brazilian Government for the “human and material losses resulting from the earthquake” and “its solidarity with the Governments and the Ecuadorian and Peruvian peoples.”

According to the statement, due to its magnitude, Saturday’s earthquake in Ecuador was felt in other countries in the region and caused serious damage in the northern region of Peru.

According to the latest official data, fourteen people died in Ecuador and one in Peru (a 4-year-old girl) due to the 6.5 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale that occurred around noon on Saturday in the province of Guayas, on the southern coast of Ecuador.
