And it is that according to tests carried out by the site Tom’s Hardwarethe VBS virtualization-based functionality of Microsoftyou could affect gaming performance by up to 10%.
Specifically, this site tested 15 different games with VBS enabled and with the function disabled, seeing some specific performance drops.
The most popular case was in Microsoft Flight Simulator, where disabling VBS improved average fps rates by 10% when using an Nvidia RTX 4090 graphics card.
He adds that when the bottom 1% of frame rate results were measured, the game benefited by up to 15% from having VBS turned off.
It should be remembered that Microsoft notes that VBS uses hardware virtualization features to create and isolate a secure region of memory from the operating system helping to protect the computer against vulnerabilities.
The rest of the games tested had a drop rate of less than 10%
For example, most games experienced performance increases of a few frames per second (fps). So Cyberpunk 2077 with 4K Ultra and ray tracing enabled went from 40.4 fps to 42.7 fps. The differences at 1440p and 1080p with the same settings as before were 5.7 fps and 5.6 fps, respectively.
On the other hand, some titles experienced bigger jumps as the resolution decreased like Borderlands 3 went from 319.1 fps to 349.9 fps at 1080p.
